AK Steel - Rockport Works

NSC's scope of work on the AK Steel project, awarded 
under a design-build lump-sum price basis covered the 
structural steel, supply and installation of the roofing and 
siding, along with installation and electrification of the 
cranes and the high-bay lighting and electrical services.  


According to John Rolfes, project design engineer of 
Computerized Structural Design, Inc., the input from NSC 
allowed quality design solutions that were economical and 
more conducive to erection. NSC safety pre-planning led to 
ground assembling 35 x 120 foot roof modules for each 
structure and then setting two into place before infilling the 
intermediate bays.  This technique eliminates riskier 
assembly at the roof elevations.
